Was it sufficiently transparent and straightforward for voters?
In October of 2023, the City Commission launched a charter review committee (CRC) to assess and submit recommendations regarding four sections of the City Charter, one of which was the following:
Review the compensation to be paid to the mayor and city commissioners as reflected in Section 1-1 of the Charter-related laws.
The *CRC advised the city commission to establish a five-to-seven-member compensation committee to determine a pay increase. The city commission, however, opted to vote themselves a pay raise without establishing the recommended compensation committee.
